About Slovakia's visa and entry policy
- Slovakia joined the Schengen Area in 2007 — no border controls with Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland.
- Slovakia uses the euro (EUR) since 2009 — no currency exchange needed if you're coming from the eurozone.
- EU/EEA citizens have full freedom of movement — no visa, no ETIAS, no limit.
- US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and ~50 other countries are visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day Schengen period. This 90/180 limit is shared across all Schengen countries.
- ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will apply to visa-free non-EU visitors — expected from late 2025/2026, not yet fully active. Check the latest status before travel.
- Most visitors also need a valid passport (not just an ID card, unless you're an EU/EEA citizen).
- Always verify current requirements with the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs before travel.
